The Mesa – your cosmos

The Andean shamanic Mesa is a bundle of medicine stones used in Andean shamanic traditions. Working out a Mesa is a specialty of this shamanic culture.

In the Andean tradition stones have a special value. The word “Mesa” is derived from the Spanish word “misa” which means “church mess”. But Mesa also means “table” and “board”. Symbolically translated, it stands for the term “altar”.

The Andean shamanic tradition is based on three pillars.

The 1st pillar includes the reconnection to earth through Offerings and ceremonies.

The 2nd pillar waters your light seed through energetic transmissions.

The 3rd pillar of the Andean tradition is based on working with healing stones.

The forces are calling

A Mesa is a powerful altar composed of multiple stones that represent the various forces of the earth and cosmos. Some stones stand for the four elements, fire, water, earth, air and other stones represent Mother Earth, Father Sun and the great mountains of the world.

Each stone in the Mesa has an elemental position, so the Mesa grows into an entire universe in which nature and the cosmos vibrate. The stones of a Mesa are ceremonially connected to the energy sources and become a dedicated line to the forces.

The Paqos are also called “Hampuykamiyok” in Peru. It means “The one who can summon the powers”. This ability is developed through a personal relationship with nature and the Mesa. Those who begin the path as Pampa Mesayok usually have a deep need to discover their own relationship to the earth, to intensify it and to live it consciously and to keep it in balance. The Mesa is your bridge to the individual elements of Pachamama and the stars.

Communicating with stones

The stones of a Mesa are called “Khuyas”, which is Quechua and means “loving relationship and devotion”. So a khuya is a stone that is cared for and loved with devotion. This fact makes an ordinary stone a khuya – an awakened stone with which one forms a relationship.

This relationship expresses itself in your heart connection to the stones. As a Mesa-Carriar I purify my Mesa, bless it with incense, red wine, and flower petals. I meditate with the individual stones and bless them with my breath. My Mesa also enables me to give myself healing, to cleanse myself and to charge myself energetically with the forces of nature. My Mesa brings me cosmic order and healing on all levels.

Heal with the Mesa

With the Mesa we hold a powerful altar with which we can treat and align ourselves again and again. The Khuyas are very strong in their energy and are always available for our own healing and meditation. You can meditate with the stones or place them on your body for healings. For each stone there exist various exercises, which you can use to channel the stone’s energy into your body. You will learn these exercises and the knowledge of the individual stones in the shamanic training at the Mesa School. Together we consecrate your stones in the individual modules, connect them with the energies and awaken their power. By practicing these exercises and meditations with your stones at home, you will strengthen your relationship with the stones and become more familiar with the forces.

With your own Mesa you can give yourself healings. For me personally I find this to be a very great gift. After a while you will also be able to use your connection to your Mesa to serve others and give healings.

Composition/Structure of a Mesa

The composition/construction of a Mesa varies in Andean traditions and regions. In the tradition of the Q’ero in which I learned, the Mesa is made up of 13 stones.

There is a kind of “main Mesa” as well as smaller Mesas that are equipped with additional stones and are used exclusively for certain energy transfers, for example the “Chumpi-Mesa” which is used for the work with the chakras/Nawis and for the female initiations of the Nusta Karpay. You create these small side Mesas as part of the initiation series. You can go through them whenever you see fit. They are not a requirement of your main Mesa, but an extension of your universe.

You can create your main Mesa with me at Mesa school. In each module we inaugurate new stones of your Mesa and you get powerful exercises.

In total you need 12 stones for your Mesa and the 13th stone will be given to you as a stone of the Pampa Mesayok lineage.

The Mesa is your mirror and shows you how much you are in balance with the elements. So there are stones that you like to work with at the beginning and others that seem more difficult to access. Each new stone brings another healing step for you. When you start building your own cosmos, you start changing your life and intensifying your relationship with nature.
