Murray and Lanman’s famous Agua de Florida is widely used in shamanic circles for purification. This alcoholic tincture of flowers and essential oils is available in different variants.
The original yellow bottle contains/is the recipe used by the Paqos of Peru for shamanic cleansing. It is not to be confused with the blue bottle, which is made in New York and smells strongly of cologne. There are various of other variants of Kananga available, e. g. rose to cinnamon, but they all smell “a little artificial”. All are highly alcoholic (94%) and the ability to forcefully spit the liquid in a vaporizing way is not easy, especially as the alcohol burns in the mouth.
Of course, the high alcohol content also has advantages. This means there are no stains or damp spots on clothing, as alcohol evaporates quickly. It is antiseptic (like disinfectant) and a wonderful carrier for the scents.
The use of Agua de Florida
Agua de Florida is used to cleanse your aura. It feels refreshing and its use brings clarity and focus.
Drip a small amount of Auga de Florida in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands and bring them gently towards your nose. Take a deep breath – this is how you clean your head and your third eye. Then quickly sweep through your aura from head to toe with the Agua de Florida in your hands. Touch your body too. Quickly brush off your shoulders and arms (as if dusting them off).
The Agua de Florida also helps you to “come back” after meditation. It distributes your energy after healings and harmonizes your energy body. You can also use it to clean your Mesa.
… and is an excellent alternative for the use in fragance lamps 😉
Mixing Agua de Florida …
Agua de Florida is a tincture and is very easy to make yourself. I have already tried several variations and have had my experiences of success and failure. The advantage of making it by yourself lies in the possibility of adapting the scents to your own preferences, adjusting the amount of alcohol and also to save Pachamama by evoiding unnecessary trade routes. We can find all the ingredients we need at home in organic markets.
Recipe: Ingredients for Agua de Florida
- 1 large jar with screw cap (400 ml e.g. of cherries or pickles)
- Alcohol (depending on taste: 40% light vodka or 96% liqueur alcohol). Like vodka, the liqueur alcohol is priced at around €10/litre.
- 2-3 lemons
- if necessary 1 orange (also depending on your taste)
- small piece of cinnamon
- 1-2 cloves
Instructions to make Agua de Florida yourself
Peel the lemons and oranges manually with a peeler or by hand and only use the zest.
Don’t cut with a knife – but really peel!
It is very important that no pulp remains on the skin, otherwise your Agua de Florida will stick to the skin due to the fructose.
Then you put all the ingredients into the jar and pour the alcohol over it. Fill it up to the brim.
Close the screw cap tightly and let the tincture steep for 3-4 weeks.
Then strain the liquid and bottle it.
Finished!
The recipe with the lemons and an orange comes closest to the Agua de Florida from Peru.
Variations of Agua de Florida
The more orange and cinnamon you use, the darker your Agua de Florida will be. My last variant consisted only of oranges, cloves and a whole stick of cinnamon. It’s gotten very dark, but smells great. Since winter is orange season, it makes sense to stock up for the year at the beginning of the year. You can also add a bit of white copal, or make your own twist with white sage, cedar, licorice, and lavender. Have fun blending your own cleansing tincture.
Instead of a tincture, you can also add essential oils to the liqueur alcohol. This is also a good variant and less effort, but finally more expensive than the original. You can create your own scents and use organic quality. Use for example: lemon, orange, clove, cinnamon, copal et cetera …

Wenn du mit Trinkalkahol 96% ansetzt, verdünnst du dann nach absieben? Oder belässt du das dann so Hochprozentig.

wenn du mit hochprozentigem Liköralkohol ansetzt, auf keinen Fall verdünnen.
Die Flüssigkeit wird dann nämlich trüb.
Ich finde die Tinktur hochprozentig sehr gut, weil es dann auf Textilien auch schneller wegtrocknet und keine Flecken macht.
Das Agua de FLorida im Original hat auch 94 % Alkohol.

Hätte gedacht dass das etwas runtergebrochen wird so auf 73-75%.

Dein Rezept werde ich auf jeden Fall ausprobieren. Ich würde die Tinkur mit Prima Sprit 68%iger Alkohol ansetzen. Hast du damit bereits Erfahrungen gemacht?

ich würde immer Alkohol über 90% wählen, da dieser schnell verdunstet und keine nassen Flecken auf der Kleidung oder
in der Mesa hinterlässt.Sonst kann deine Mesa auch schnell gammeln. Und die Kraft der Reinigung ist auch anders, wenn Du 94% nimmst.

Ich habe heute meine Tinktur zum ersten Mal probiert also in ein Spray gefüllt und in meine Hand und dann in meine Aura rein massiert.
Was soll ich sagen es riecht so fein und meine Familie und meine Kinder sind begeistert ich musste allen abfüllen.. Ich habe sogar meine Wohnung damit geputzt ich hab 50ml in mein Putzwasser gegeben und diese befreiende Energy die ich jetzt hab einfach klasse. 🙏☀️ vielen lieben Dank
